From staff reports
Jordan Corriher’s three-run homer in the seventh lifted South Rowan’s baseball team to a 7-6 non-conference victory at Salisbury Thursday.
The other hero for the Raiders was Dylan Walker, who shut out Salisbury in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and hit a two-run double in the sixth that sliced a 6-2 deficit to 6-4.
Maverick Miles was 2-for-3 for South (3-2). Jacob Jester made a diving catch in center field to rob Russ Michalec of a hit in the first inning.
Forrest Buchanan stayed hot for the Hornets (0-4) with two hits.
Philip Tonseth pitched six effective innings, but the bullpen couldn’t close the door.
See Scoreboard for box.
* East Rowan routed Veritas Academy 10-0 in five innings as Alex Litaker and Parker Gobbel combined on a one-hitter at Staton Field.
Ethan Fisher hit a three-run double to highlight East’s five-run first.
David Ijames hit his second homer in two days, a three-run blast in the second inning.
Ben DeCelle went 2-for-2 and knocked in two runs.
East (4-0) plays at NPC foe Carson (4-0) tonight. That matchup is now the nightcap of a jayvee-varsity doubleheader at Carson. The varsity game should start around 7 p.m.

* Davie pounded R.J. Reynolds 10-0 to win its CPC opener Thursday.
The War Eagles (4-1) again got great pitching from Shelton Howard who tossed a five-inning no-hitter and faced only 17 hitters. He fanned eight.
Jacob Vernon went 3-for-4. Alex Newman and Ryan Foster produced two hits apiece for Davie.
* Scottie Williams pitched four scoreless innings to lead Lake Norman to an 11-0, five-inning NPC victory against Statesville on Thursday. Jordan Farrell went 3-for-3 for the Wildcats (5-1, 2-0 NPC). Ross Whitley, Nick Lomascolo and Jack Edmiston had two hits each.

Zach Burkhart was the winning pitcher for the Green Dragons (6-1).
– South softball
A wide-open NPC softball race got a little bit wider and a little more open Thursday when South Rowan beat Lake Norman 1-0 at the South diamond before rain set in.
It was the first win for the Raiders and the first loss for Lake Norman.
South (1-2) scored in the first inning when Whitney Ashley walked, Desirae Overcash doubled her to third base, and Kim Fesperman singled in Ashley.
Pitchers Taylor Lookabill and Overcash combined on a three-hitter and made that early run stand up.
“We hit the ball good, just couldn’t get the runners home today,” Lookabill said.
Lookabill pitched into the sixth and was lifted after her fourth walk. The Raiders made their only two errors in the sixth and seventh, but Overcash worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and stranded a runner at second in the seventh to save it.
“We’ve pitched both girls every game, and they’re really working on cutting the walks down,” South coach Tiffany Poole said. “We want no free rides and lots of groundballs. We’ve got the best defense we’ve had, and we want to let them play.”
South played without shortstop Kayla Morrow, one its top hitters. Morrow competes in track and softball and was with the track team yesterday. She placed third in the 200.
“Even missing one our big-time players, we did enough to win,” Poole said.
The season is young, but only two teams remain unbeaten in the NPC รณ West Rowan (1-0) and Northwest Cabarrus (2-0). They play each other tonight at Northwest.
