A virtual success
Video games are not just for youngsters, as the residents of The Laurels learned when two Junior Girl Scouts gave them a Wii game system last week. Equipped with interactive fitness games, the Wii cranked the residents’ rehabilitation activities up a notch, letting them bowl and play baseball “virtually,” without leaving the center. The success of this project was doubly revealing. It showed how the efforts of two girls ó Chloe Burks and Caroline Parrott, who raised money for the Wii ó can bring positive results for a larger group. And while some fear technology is causing a digital divide, the project proved that it can also be used to bridge the generation gap.
