Roger “Bubba” Morris was in on a lot of wins at North Rowan and Catawba as a player.
He now has his first win as a coach.
Morris, who heads up the South Rowan jayvee program, watched Tyler Kowalczyk slam a home run to lead off the game, and South beat North 16-5.
Tyler Corriher was the winning pitcher. Matt Miller rapped out three hits for South (1-0).
n College women’s hoops
South Carolina State’s Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 11 points in a 68-60 loss at Winston-Salem State on Thursday.
n College baseball
Montreat’s Ryan Bostian (South Rowan) had three RBIs in Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of Covenant College at Lookout Mountain, Tenn.
n Davidson’s Brett Shore (South) had two hits in each game, but the Wildcats dropped two to Auburn this week.
n Keegan Linza (North Rowan) pitched two scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts as Northwest Florida State rallied to beat Kankakee 12-10 Thurdsay.
n Overseas hoops
Carlos Dixon (South Rowan) scored 13 points for Quilmes Mar del Plata in Argentina’s top pro league Sunday.
Dixon is averaging 12.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 29 contests.
n Bobcats tryouts
Tryouts for the Salisbury Bobcats 17-under AAU boys basketball team will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Catawba College.

n Cougar-Raider golf
The third annual Cougar/Raider golf tournament will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Corbin Hills.
There will be a shotgun start at 1:30 pm. Lunch and registration begin at 11:30.
Proceeds will be equally divided between Carson and South Rowan for athletics. In the past two years, $19,400 was divided.
