OLIN ó Talk about a stat-sheet stuffer. That’s what Daniel Plummer can call himself after East Rowan’s 94-54 victory over North Iredell on Wednesday.
That’s right. East Rowan, which managed only 38 points at home in the first meeting between the NPC teams, exploded for 94 in the away win.
“Go figure,” coach Greg McKenzie said.
McKenzie said he wanted a good game to gain confidence for Friday’s home game against Northwest Cabarrus. His team should have it now, especially Plummer.
The 6-foot-2 senior scored 31 points, dished out seven assists, grabbed six rebounds, blocked five shots, had four steals and took three charges.
“And he sold popcorn at halftime,” McKenzie joked.
East (6-9, 5-6) ran off to a 50-19 lead at halftime and stretched it to 75-34 after three as Plummer had 28. McKenzie sat his starters down for the fourth quarter but did play Plummer two minutes in an effort to get him his first career 30-point game. Plummer got it on a 3-point play.
“Daniel played phenomenal,” McKenzie said. “He had a great all-around game. But everybody played well. We were really focused. Our guys consistently made easy shots.”
How consistent? Only Plummer and Caleb Allen (13 points) hit double figures. Ten Mustangs scored, including Jordan Moore, Cole Honeycutt and Phillip Ajayi, each with eight points. Riley Weber chipped in with seven.
Chris McKenzie had six points, eight assists and 10 rebounds.
Last-place North Iredell fell to 2-12, 1-10.
