Cal Thomas is just telling it like it is
Regarding Donald Tracy’s Jan. 6 letter, “Columnist Thomas off-base on religion”:
Mr. Tracy, I believe, is visually impaired. In his denunciation of Cal Thomas’ column about Obama, he only hears what he wants to hear and refused to better judge character by what one does. Thomas is simply reporting what he sees. The mainstream media ó CBS, ABC, NBC, the liberal, Democratic press and the Salisbury Post ó are all “in the tank,” so to speak, for Obama. Ninety-six percent of black Americans voted for Obama, and enough white Americans also voted for him to carry the day for Obama and the Democrats who were swept along into office. There is no complaint, on my part, for these results, but admiration for Obama, who has done so little to deserve such admiration. So it must be that people are enthralled by the way Obama speaks that this accounts for such blind admiration, even, yes, a messianic following.
For me, people can say anything, but what people do tells us who they really are and what they really believe. I won’t go into Obama’s past relationships, a preacher who hates his country, a radical who likes to blow up government buildings ó not to mention the corrupt political associates and background of his past. Oops, I just did, sorry.
His political posture in the Senate has been so far left he is without a doubt a socialist. The only problem with this is that most of Europe has tried these ideas, and they don’t work. Socialism does not work. It’s a nice theory and sounds good, but it doesn’t work.
Lastly, to place such hopes on one with so little experience and questionable background, based only on what you hear, is being visually and mentally impaired. The most expensive commodity in this country is stupidity.

A Bell Tower bonus
My sister and I rang in the new year at the Old Bell Tower this year. Much to our amazement, both of our names were called when the Downtown Dollars were handed out and we were each $25 winners. I just wanted to thank Downtown Salisbury Inc. for putting on a wonderful event and for the donation of the Downtown Dollars. They will be put to good use, and I appreciate it very much!
