SPENCER ó North Rowan’s girls finished Tuesday night’s game on a 26-11 run, which sounds pretty good considering the Cavaliers were playing defending 2A state champion East Davidson.
Until you’re reminded of this one little stat. When North started its surge, it was down by 38 points.
North was no match for Anna Freeman, Elizabeth Merritt and company in a 69-46 loss.
The Cavs trailed 38-9 at halftime. When Golden Eagles coach Terry Allmon took out his starters, the score had ballooned to 58-20.
East Davidson (13-0, 3-0 CCC) got eight points, five rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots from the 6-foot-2 Freeman in the first half. She finished with 16 points.
“We just tried not to be sloppy,” Allmon said. “I didn’t think we were as sharp as we have been, but we did OK.”
Deshea Torrence started North (2-10, 0-3) on its run with a layup, and the Cavs scored the last seven points of the third quarter. Symphony Roberts scored seven straight in the fourth quarter for North and finished with a team-leading 12 points. Olivia Bethea ended North’s scoring with a long 3-pointer.
