TOWSON, Md. ó Junior Hairston scored 16 points, making two free throws with 46 seconds left, to lift Towson to a 58-57 victory over James Madison on Saturday night.
The free throws by Hairston, a former West Rowan star, gave Towson (6-8, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association) its first lead since early in the first half. Andrey Semonov’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the the rim.
Davidson 76, Samford 55
DAVIDSON ó Stephen Curry reached another remarkable milestone in another Davidson victory.
And this time he wasn’t as winded when it was over.
With coach Bob McKillop giving the dynamic junior an occasional break from playing point guard, Curry scored 21 points and surpassed 2,000 in his career as the Wildcats beat Samford 76-55 on Saturday to continue their dominance in the Southern Conference.
Save for a scare when Curry rolled his left ankle late ó he insisted after the game he was fine ó Curry enjoyed another great day as Davidson (10-2, 3-0) cruised to its 33rd straight league win.
Princeton 65, UNC-Greensboro 55
PRINCETON, N.J. ó Dan Mavraides scored a career-high 17 points as Princeton held on for a 65-55 win over North Carolina-Greensboro.
Western Carolina 68, Furman 57
GREENVILLE, S.C. ó Brandon Giles scored 25 points and had eight rebounds to lift Western Carolina to a 68-57 victory over Furman. Giles scored 20 points in the second half to help the Catamounts (6-5, 1-1 Southern Conference) snap a three-game losing streak.
Coastal Carolina 82, High Point 69
CONWAY, S.C. ó Steven Sexton scored 22 points and Coastal Carolina defeated High Point 82-69.
George Mason 101, UNC-Wilmington 60
FAIRFAX, Va. ó John Vaughan scored 20 points and George Mason used an 18-0 second half run to defeat UNC-Wilmington 101-60 in the Patriots’ Colonial Athletic Association home opener.
Winthrop 59, Liberty 57
ROCK HILL, S.C. ó Byron Faison scored a career-high 16 points to help Winthrop snap a 10-game losing streak with a 59-57 win over Liberty.
Faison hit four 3-pointers,to give Winthrop (2-10, 1-2 Big South Conference) a 44-32 lead.
