Salisbury pulled off a sweep of team titles and MVP recognition for the second consecutive year.
Darien Rankin was named the boys MVP after scoring 20 points, grabbing eight rebounds and making four steals in Salisbury’s 61-57 win against West Rowan. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 steals and 4.7 boards in two games.
He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Brandon Abel (9.7 points, 8.0 rebounds), West’s Jordan Kimber (13.0 points), Carson’s Darius Moose (22.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 62.2-percent shooting), South Rowan’s Hunter Morrison (19.3 points, 4.0 assists) and North Rowan’s Javon Hargrave (12.7 points, 11.7 rebounds).
Shipp had 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals for Salisbury’s girls in their 75-56 win against East. She averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in two games.
Bubbles Phifer (17.0 points, 5.5 steals, 5.5 rebounds) and De’Rya Wylie (10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds) also made the all-tournament team from Salisbury. The other honorees were East teammates Ashley Collins (11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.3 steals, 20-for-20 shooting from the line) and Katelynne Poole (15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists) as well as third-place Davie County’s Kellie Brown (11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds).
