China Grove students take up a worthy mission
After many years of volunteering at Main Street Mission, nothing thrills me more than seeing caring people come through the door with bags and boxes of food that have been collected from churches, schools, individuals, businesses and organizations in the community to help those who have a need. How exciting this past week to see hundreds of students from China Grove Elementary School walking class by class the few blocks from their school to the mission with cans, boxes and bags in hand, and some in pockets, to deliver to the volunteers who were waiting to receive them. Each student, teacher and chaperone was warmly greeted, thanked and wished a Happy Thanksgiving.
How refreshing to see young people who are learning to be mindful of, and concerned for, the needs of others. Many in the South Rowan area are not aware of the mission, but because of these children, people are realizing that there is a place where people are being served. Those thousands of items brought in by the children and others are being distributed, and many families will be blessed during the coming months.
Thanks to all who are continually making this happen, not only at Thanksgiving but all year long!
