Waiting for the conclusion of this ‘ugly campaign’
I am so tired of this “ugly campaign,” people talking about what they are or did. And not about what really needs to be done ó about the loss of jobs, jobs being sent overseas, drunk driving, health care, etc.
People are just not being kind to each other, even those running for the highest office in the United States. No wonder people have a hard time respecting them, with the name-calling and all.
I am a semi-disabled widow over 50. I came here just five years ago and started a new life, opened a hair salon and gave job openings to three other stylists.
We are just about hanging in here with all this bailout talk. People are scared.
Common sense is a long way off and has gone out the window, with all this greed and highway robbery with a pen.
I put everything on the line to open my business and didn’t ask for a bailout. I took my first five-day vacation in five years, thanks to the kindness of a friend letting me use a beach house.
Obama and McCain, get over yourselves! Just maybe “we the people” can find a way to make common sense out of all this. We have a bailout of the rich and famous because they live high on the hog. Is that what they mean when they talk about “pork?”
We in the middle class didn’t vote for the war. We lost our boys and girls, with no peace.
We didn’t vote for the bailout of the rich and famous, but we are paying the price, and so will our grandchildren.
Why reward these people? When do we get a real vote that matters?

Remember Germany in ’33
With the upcoming election a few days away, the world wide economic crisis is a major factor for many voters. However, the issue of abortion has been downplayed. I want to address voters who identify themselves with pro-life leanings but are planning to support Barack Obama.
While it has not been widely reported, one of the first things that Obama will do as president is to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. This will abolish every existing limitation on abortions, including late term abortions and parental notification laws. Essentially 30-years of pro-life effort will be erased. In addition, Obama promises to repeal the Hyde Amendment which protects taxpaying citizens from paying for abortions that are not necessary to save the life of the mother and are not the result of rape or incest. To make matters worse, Obama did not support the Pregnant Women Support Act, a bill introduced by Pro-Life Democrats to provide assistance for women facing crisis pregnancies. A key component was providing medical coverage to unborn children through the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Senator Ted Kennedy supported this component while Senator Obama opposed it.
Voters should read about another election that occurred in 1933. These citizens were also embroiled in a major economic crisis along with being vilified by the world. Along came a charismatic leader with great oratory skills. Many Christians as well as Jewish business leaders supported this candidate of change, Adolf Hitler. I wonder if a few years later, these same voters deeply regretted what their votes cost not only their country but the lives of millions of innocent people. Something to think about as you cast your vote.

Only McCain can save us
In response to Ashley Deaton’s Oct. 26 letter and her followers, Gov. Sarah Palin is a trusted and most intelligent lady who knows that if Obama gets elected, it will surely set the stage for a one-world order controlled by the government.
Parents will be forbidden to have families. Very few children will be allowed, maybe one or none to parents wanting a family. Governor Palin knows, too, that truck drivers will not be able to bring in enough food and supplies due to gas shortages manipulated by countries that hate America. Obama’s ruling in the highest seat, the White House Office, will set the stage that the Bible speaks of in Revelation where people will not be able to buy food, clothes or gas without the 666 numbers bedded in their hands or foreheads, and churches will be closed.
Listen to Sarah. She’s real and genuine. Listen to what she’s saying. Sarah Palin is crying out for Americans to cease from voting for a man who gave up God and his church to control and destroy America. He hates America, and China and Russia are his friends. Obama seeks to control the people through government making everyone equal citizens ó no rich, no poor, no middle class. Nothing to work for. God has put Governor Palin on tour across America to speak out and to speak up and to save our country from danger. Her husband is right where he should be, caring for his kids.
As the president’s seat is sacred and honorable, Sarah Palin knows a man that can hold that seat with trust and loyalty, so let her do her job; to get American citizens votes to bring in the only man that can secure and save our country, John McCain.

One vote is important
Let us pray together to bring truth to the forefront of this election, not the sound bites and half-truths to which we have been exposed. We cannot underestimate the importance of one vote. It is our duty to protect the values on which this great country was founded.
We should consider change in ourselves first. We should look at what the candidates really stand for and determine if the candidate is really aligned with our values. We should be educating ourselves about the candidates’ positions. We should vote based on a comparison of the candidates’ values versus our own.
While there are many important issues, we need to consider the moral values that are under attack. Our country was founded as “One Nation Under God.” It is our duty to preserve the ideals of the Constitution and not compromise the sacrifices that have been made to make this country great.
I will make my decision based on my belief that we should not redefine faith, family, marriage and life. No other issue, nor all other issues taken together, can constitute a reason to vote for candidates who intend to preserve and defend this holocaust of innocent human life that is abortion. Lack of respect for one another harbors violence, greed and the “me” society. It is my belief that God will not continue to bless us if we discontinue the fight to uphold every human life.
A great nation is built on values. We have too many voters who do not align their vote with moral values, but who vote for their own personal gain, instead of the good of their fellow man. I am counting on all of us to do what is right to make this country a better place, not just for some, but for all.

Obama’s inspiration
Some online comments to the Post made blatant racist assumptions about the voting choices of the Livingstone College students who marched to cast ballots this week. But let’s give these commenters the benefit of the doubt. What if all 200 students voted for Barack Obama? Consider this: There have been other black candidates who never inspired this reaction around the nation. This man is inspiring students at every college, regardless of race, to march to the polls.
Two hundred students in Salisbury, marching to vote … what a day this is. I wouldn’t care if these smart students were purple. This awesome election, inspired by the diversity of this marvelous man running for president, has awakened the nation and all cultures of our great nation and the world to the great possibilities our nation offers them through voting. It has opened the eyes of the poorest, as he represents them; the abandoned, as he represents them; the culturally diverse, as he represents them; the underdog, as he represents them. And he is doing it with grace, dignity and with the most observable humbleness. He is both white and black, but reared by whites. His mother, who is of English-Irish descent and highly educated, inspired him to always strive for all that he could be. And he is obedient.
These students are proud to share a commonality with Obama; and rightly so, as we all seek commonalities in our candidates. Not only African-Americans feel that commonality; huge numbers of other cultures are marching to the precincts to vote. Regardless of what shade you want to color this presidential election, or what is sparking the passions of these young people, the passions are there. And if a multi-racial man sparks this much excitement around the world about governmental leadership, we need him to stay there as long as possible.

Bible has the answers
I strongly believe that the Bible is the answer to all of our problems, and if we all would follow it and do as it says, we would have a world of love. When I look into my little boy’s eyes that are as blue as the sky, it reminds me that abortion is wrong, except in case of incest or rape, and that it should not be used as a form of birth control.
Only God can make a child and only God should have the choice of taking him. Life begins from day one. Jeremiah 1-5 reads, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” When I talk to a World War II veteran with tears running down his face because of Hitler and Germany and the many bodies that were lost, I realize that freedom is not free, and that’s the reason I can still do what I want every day, because of him. When I see pictures of the inside of a C130 plane coming back from Iraq lined with coffins, I understand why I have freedom. When I see two men or two women standing in church to get married, I know that is wrong because they cannot produce offspring, as marriage was founded upon Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. That tells me where we are headed, but show them love anyway.
It is not always about Democrats or Republicans; it’s about God first, and then us. It was never about you anyway; it’s about Him.
It’s your choice. Think about our values and not on power and money and greed, but as a common-sense American on what is right and what is wrong.

Stand up for God, truth
I was surprised to learn about the number of conservative Christians who do not vote. They believe that they need to stay out of politics, and that God has everything under control. Their vote will not make a difference, so they do not need to vote.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”
Christians, now is the time to stand for God, for country, for truth. We cannot underestimate the power of one. Christian faith owes its existence to the power of one man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself for all. Every Christian holds within his vote the power to change the world. One vote can speak for millions of unheard voices of unborn babies. One vote can save the traditional family from ruin. There are more than 60 million evangelical Christians in America. Together we can protect the values this great nation was built upon: Life, family, marriage, faith. On Nov. 4, one vote will make a difference. One vote, your vote.
Then there are the liberal Christians who follow the liberal media. They are frightened by the economy and they blame it all on the conservatives. Some of them are frightened and intimidated by their pastors.
Obama’s voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the Senate in 2007. He is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual and against the Bible’s principles. I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama’s positions.
This next year is going to be a year of testing, no matter who gets elected. God is going to judge this nation according to what we choose. My question is, during this time of testing, would you choose a conservative patriot or the most liberal senator in the history of America to be your president?

SGA board backs McCrory
The Catawba College Student Government Association executive board would like to formally endorse one of its own in the North Carolina gubernatorial race.
Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, class of 1978, is an alumnus who served on the SGA while a student at Catawba. The executive board agrees that McCrory’s plan for North Carolina will benefit the state and students at Catawba. The exciting possibility of sharing an alma mater with the governor encourages Catawba students to vote on Nov. 4. Please seize the opportunity to promote McCrory and Catawba College on Election Day.
