Third-seeded Brittany Honeycutt and fifth-seeded Caitlyn Fry provided the wins for East (10-2).
“The girls were wonderful, and I learned a lot from them,” first-year coach Laurie Wyrick said. “I’m looking forward to another season.”
Fry, a senior, capped a 12-0 season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Kirstie Hall. Honeycutt, who was ahead 5-3 when Alexis Pace withdrew, finished her singles season with an 11-1 record.
East’s top-seeded seniors ran into trouble against a pair of talented freshmen from Southeast Guilford (15-0). Emilee Smith lost 6-0, 6-0 against Brooke McAmis, and Hannah Kovach was beaten 6-1, 6-1 by Kayleigh Bullard.
Fourth-seeded senior Emily Beck dropped to 10-2 in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Logan Hurley, and sixth-seeded Devan Corpening fell 6-3, 6-1 against sixth-seeded Lindsay Callehan.
