We knew the gardening season had begun when Jim Safrit and his grandchildren came up with this 9-pound turnip back in the spring. Holding the turnip are, left to right, Meredith Sokolowski, Miller Sokolowski and Hunter Safrit. Jim Safrit grew the turnip at his home on Henderson Grove Church Road.
