Notes from the farmers market

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2008

– Offerings at the market are shifting from summer produce to the fall crops ó greens, crowder peas, butter beans, winter squash and pumpkins.
– The last day for Miller’s Produce is Saturday. Other vendors will continue through the last Saturday in October. Some vendors say they will continue to offer produce until frost, even if that comes after the official closing date. Others, such as Dawn’s Greenhouse, will take a weekend or so off until fall crops come in, while San Yeng’s fall crops are already available, along with cut flowers, and will be until frost.
– Charolais Beef, Wild Turkey Farms, The Olde Homestead and Dawn’s Greenhouse are working on plans to make their merchandise available by special arrangement after the close of market. Check next week’s notes for more detailed information.
– The market, at the corner of South Main and Bank streets, is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday.
