West Iredell never has beaten East, but the Warriors have had this one circled on the calendar for a year.
If youíve forgotten, West Iredell had a heck of a team in 2007, with running back Bobby Morrison and quarterback Jared Thompson, and it ended West Rowanís long streak of NPC victories.
But East did everything right on its trip to West Iredell, got spectacular outings from Thomas Lowe, Shawn Eagle and Josh Patch and won big.
Lowe, now a junior, was phenomenal against the Warriors, with 27 carries for 248 yards and two TDs.
The first game in West Iredell history was in 1974 against East and didnít go well. East rushed for 503 yards ó current assistant principal Rick Vanhoy had a bunch ó and East romped 52-0. East also beat West Iredell in 1975 and 1976 before the series was renewed last season.
Eastís passing game showed signs of life in the second half last week, with Jordan Moore and Quentin Sifford catching TD tosses. Keith Leonard made two interceptions.
Former receiver Quan Rucker, a Wake Forest commit, is now West Iredellís QB, and his speed creates problems. West Iredell has averaged 44 points in its first two games against Forbush and South Iredell.
Coach Mark Weycker has put heart and soul into West Iredell since 1987 and registered his 100th career win last week.
