SOUTH BEND, Ind. ó Winning isnít what Lou Holtz remembers best about coaching Notre Dame to its last national championship 20 years ago.
iItís the memories of preparing for the games,î Holtz said.
Holtz will get to relive some of those memories Saturday with about 70 members from that national championship team during a reunion where he will be honored with the dedication of a statue. It depicts him calling a play on the sidelines.
iI think itís as high an honor as I could ever receive,î Holtz said. iBut itís a tribute to the players, the administration, the athletic directors. One person doesnít do that. Iím humbled by it.î
Holtz, elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in May, coached the Irish for 11 seasons, guiding them to a record of 100-30-2.
