Brent Morel hit his first home of the season to lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 4-1 victory Thursday night at Asheville.
Morel gave the I’s a 3-0 lead with a home run in the top of the third inning, and Christian Marrero homered to right in the ninth for the final run. Catcher John Curtis went 3-for-3 with a double for Kannapolis, while Mark Fleisher and Eduardo Escobar had two hits apiece.
Pitcher Levi Maxwell improved to 13-4, allowing four hits and striking out six in 62/3 innings. Santo Luis struck out five batters in the final 21/3 innings for the save.
n Softball tryouts
The Xtreme fastpitch team is moving up to 16-and-under this fall and is looking for experienced players wanting to play for the next two years.
The team will play ASA, NSA and AAU tournaments and showcase. Tryouts for all positions will be held Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at Carson High.

n Parks and rec
The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following fall programs: Pee Wee Flag Football League for grades kindergarten through second, Youth Volleyball League for grades third through eighth and Youth Cross Country Running League for grades third through eighth.
Participants can register for each program Aug. 18-Sept. 6 at Hall Gym. The cost for each program is $30 for city residents and $60 for non-residents.
