Rown County Concert Association announces new season

The Rowan County Concert Association has planned its 2008-2009 season with four shows in Keppel Auditorium on the campus of Catawba College.
On Saturday, Sept. 13 “Maestros Unleashed!” will present “Pizazz! American style.” This four-piece ensemble will perform a mosaic of American music and styles of pop, jazz, blues ragtime, Latin and classical. Brian Gurl, who performed last year, returns from last year’s “Legend” show with his friend Lenny Ski on the violin with their hilarious comedy act, Jack Benny meets Liberace.
On Nov. 22, David Holt and the Lightning Bolts will take the Keppel stage. Winning Grammy Awards along the way, Holt has been researching traditional folk music for more than 35 years with special emphasis on Appalachian music. He plays 12 instruments, sings, loves to entertain with stories, and appears on PBS often. He appeared in the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou.”
On Dec. 18, in time for Christmas, is the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra Christmas Show. The Moonlight Serenaders will perform hits audiences will recognize and love ó “Moonlight Serenade,” “String of Pearls,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “In the Mood,” “Perfidia” and more. In addition, many holiday songs will get everyone in a Christmas mood.
On March 7, 2009, acclaimed tribute artist Stephen Freeman will perform “Echoes of a Legend: Memories of Elvis, the King!” With female singers and a band, Freeman brings Elvis back to live with a wide repertoire of Elvis hits ó “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Love Me Tender” and many gospel songs such as “Peace in the Valley” and “Bosom of Abraham.”
Season tickets are $55 for adults, $20 for students and $120 for a family. Single parent family tickets are $60.
Season ticket holders may attend reciprocal concerts in Albemarle, Asheboro, Mooresville, Statesville and Lincolnton, with a total of 22 area concerts that may be attended with the season pass. These include The New Christy Minstrels, Laughing with the Legends, the Air Force Concert Band, The Hughes Brothers from Branson, and The Embers ó among others. Those who buy a membership will get a complete listing of concert dates, times and locations.
