Kannapolis police search for suspect in double homicide

KANNAPOLIS ó Police are searching for a man they believe murdered his wife and another man late Saturday.
Joaquin Alvarez Rios is wanted in the shooting death of the two people at his 702 W. 8th St. home, the Kannapolis Police Department said.
Police said one of the victims was Rios’ wife, but did not immediately release the names of the victims pending notification of family members.
Police responded to the home on 8th Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night after receiving a call from a concerned family member, a press release said. When officers arrived at the home, they found two people had been shot and killed.
Investigators believe Rios shot and killed both victims during a domestic situation at the home, the press release said. Investigators believe Rios left the Kannapolis area and may be somewhere in the Charlotte area.
“Investigators are using every available resource to search for the shooter in this incident,” the press release said.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Kannapolis Police Department at 704-920-4000 or Cabarrus Area Crimestoppers at 704-93-CRIME (932-7463).
