Outdoors roundup: 3-year-old snags big bass

Cayden Schlechty, 3, caught a beautiful bass that weighed more than 7 pounds on a lizard using his Spider-Man fishing rod at a local farm pond.
His parents are Josh and Amy Schlechty of Salisbury.
The fish was released to be caught again another day, according to Cayden’s uncle, Jack Scott.

C.J. Johnston and Matt Stanley of Salisbury won the Piedmont Division of Fishers of Men regional qualifier on Badin Lake with a total catch of 19.09 pounds, including a lunker that weighed 6.88 pounds.
They won $1,320 at the June 14 tourney.
Clarence Brickey and James Allred from Pfafftown finished second with 16.54 pounds and $737. Third Place went to 2007 points champions Robert Mixon and Robert Lambert of Lexington with 15.9 pounds. They won $579. Lexington’s Dean Collins and Ray Furr brought in 15.32 pounds and received $432.
Fifth place went to Legacy Series Champion Steve Singleton and Wayne Needham of Asheboro with 15.14 pounds and $374. Sixth place went to Gary Freeze and Jarrett Freeze of China Grove. They also won the 2008 points championship. The father/son team won $1,152 and that included $900 for the championship with 14.93 pounds of bass.
