Prep Baseball Roundup: Lake Norman up next for East

From staff reportsRoss Whitley didn’t allow a hit in three innings of relief, and Lake Norman defeated Southwest Guilford 5-3 on Tuesday to advance to a third-round matchup with East Rowan in the 3A playoffs.
Lake Norman (13-13) scored twice in the fifth to forge a 3-all tie, then scored two more in the sixth.
Jordan Farrel went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple and scored two runs to lead the Wildcats. Kevin Gradert was 2-for-3 with a double.
n Northwest Cabarrus ended its season with a 5-4 loss to Kings Mountain. Grayson Thompson hit a three-run homer for the Trojans. Matt Mariano held the Mountaineers to five hits, but three were homers in a small ballpark. n Ledford defeated Wilkes Central 5-3 to advance to the third round in 2A.
Justin Livengood allowed two runs in the top of the first but still improved to 7-0 by striking out 11 batters and allowing five hits in a complete game.
After Wilkes Central led 2-0 early, Ledford (22-6) responded with home runs from Jacob Scott and Sam Berrier to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first. Scott finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Berrier was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Patrick Koontz and Travis Vogler each went 2-for-3.n Central Davidson finished its season with an 11-2 loss to Surry Central in the second round of the 2A playoffs.
Drew Hampton led Central (17-9) with two hits, but the Spartans couldn’t keep pace with Surry Central after getting within 4-2 in the fourth inning.
