The 13 candidates for the Rowan County Board of Commissioners will participate in a forum 6 p.m. Tuesday at Catawba College’s Crystal Lounge.
Catawba, the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and the Salisbury Post are co-sponsoring the event.
Dr. Michael Bitzer, dean of admissions and a political science instructor, will present questions to the candidates, some of which have come from readers of the Post.
The forum is divided into two segments. The five Democratic candidates will field questions from 6 to 7 p.m. After a short break, the eight Republicans will take the stage from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.
Seats on the commission now held by Arnold Chamberlain and Jim Sides are up for election. Sides is seeking re-election, Chamberlain is not.
The five Democrats running are Raymond Coltrain, Terry Julian, Laura Lyerly, Michael Phillips and Ralph Walton.
Republican candidates are Ken Deal, Carl Ford, Mike Miller, Patty Overcash, Donna Peeler, Von Coolidge Poston, Harry Rivera and Sides.
Memories 1280 WSAT radio will broadcast the forum, which will be simulcast by 1140 WRNA in China Grove and 1460 WRKB in Kannapolis.
The Crystal Lounge is in the Robertson College Community Center on West Innes Street.
