Wallendael selected for Governor's School – Education news

Governor’s SchoolHeather Van Wallendael, a junior at Gray Stone Day School on Pfeiffer University’s Misenheimer campus, has been selected to attend the 2008 N.C. Governor’s School.
Daughter of Shawn and Lori Van Wallendael of Gold Hill, she was nominated in English and will attend the school on the East Campus at Meredith College in Raleigh.
Van Wallendael is a member of the National and Spanish honor Societies, Quiz Bowl, yearbook staff and the Young Progressive Society. She is also a junior marshal.
Extra-curricular activities include eight years of horseback riding; 11 years of ice skating, earning gold at the N.C. State Games; 11 years of dance, performing in The Nutcracker with Piedmont Dance Conservatory; acting roles with the Piedmont Players and the Pfeiffer Players; and the Silver Award with the Girl Scouts.
She attended Summer Ventures in Science and Math at East Carolina University, and volunteers with Highland Hill Stables, with recycling at school and with Faith Formation at church.
The six-week Governor’s School begins June 15. It is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically and intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. Funded annually by the General Assembly, it is administered by the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division.
