Lewis has right idea about leadership
Regarding the city’s decision to drop its annexation proposal:
It was reported that Salisbury City Councilman Mark Lewis stated that “city and county leaders need to work together for the benefit of the community.”
A similar phrase was stated by Patrick Henry, in March 1799, when he said … “Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.”
My challenge to both the leaders of Rowan County and che city of Salisbury: Unite as a leadership team for the benefit of the people you both serve.

Comment & thanks
First the comment: I visited www.salisburypost.com and did not find any e-mail address other than the Webmaster. In my search tonight, I also encountered the fact that there are not any e-mail addresses given for the City Council members (unlike the Rowan County commissioners).
I would like to express my thanks to the Post for posting the full text of Councilman Lewis’ statement concerning the annexation. As someone who lives in the area proposed for annexation, I appreciate his cool-headed approach and his initiative to restoring the relationship between county residents and Salisbury city. Should I ever become a city resident, I would certainly vote for him.
I have trouble understanding how the City Council could have continued with the annexation process after receiving the report prepared by the Centralina Council of Governments. Ten minutes after I had seen it for the first time at the information session, it was clear this was a loser for the citizens of the city as well as for those in the annexation area.
I have lived in the Salisbury area for more than 20 years and have been a Post subscriber for the entire time. This is the first time I have been moved to contact you; I am glad it is for a positive reason.

Good candidates
Well, the good news is this! We have a very large group of people that are in the race for a seat on the county board. If you are a Democrat, a Republican or an independent, I believe we have replacements for Jim Sides. They are Raymond Coltrain and Terry Julian. Both are very smart, level headed, experienced candidates who care obout our future. Check them out. They will do the job as it should be done.
As we travel the roads, we see the sign saying, “Vote for Jim Sides.” Strange is the “T” in the word “vote.” Is this red the blood of Jesus, who died for you and me? I have so much love and respect for the cross. We have two at my church. They are very special to everyone. It’s my strong belief that politics and religion don’t mix unless you’re a member of Jeremiah Wright’s church.
