Intimidators release roster

The Kannapolis Intimidators announced their roster for opening day on Monday.
Kannapolis welcomes three players from last season.
Pitchers Jason Rice (3-2) and Charlie Shirek are back, along with infielder Mike Grace, who batted .252 in 120 games.
New outfielder Jose Martinez, 19, is listed fourth on Baseball Americaís Chicago White Sox prospect list. The native of Venezuela hit .282 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs at Bristol last summer.
Prospects from last Juneís draft include pitchers Leroy Hunt (fourth round), Nate Jones (fifth) and Johnnie Lowe (sixth) and former Duke outfielder Jimmy Gallagher (seventh).
Manager Chris Jones, pitching coach Larry Owens, hitting coach Andy Tomberlin and trainer Chris McKenna return from last season.
Kannapolis opens the South Atlantic League season on April 3 at Greenville, S.C. The home opener is on April 7.
* Catawba baseball
Catawba third baseman Craige Lyerly was named SAC Position Player of the Week, and Catawbaís Blake Ketner was named SAC Pitcher of the Week.
Lyerly had six RBIs against top-ranked Mount Olive and scored six runs in a game against Lincoln Memorial. The East Rowan product hit .542 in six games, with 13 RBIs and 12 runs.
Lyerly raised his average to .396 and is second on the team with 44 RBIs and 48 runs scored.
Ketner tossed a shutout against Lincoln Memorial and also pitched four innings of one-hit ball vs. Mount Olive in a no-decision.
Ketner, a Northwest Cabarrus product, had an ERA of 0.82 for the week. He allowed eight baserunners in 11 innings. Ketner improved to 5-2 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.72.
* Catawba is holding a baseball reunion on April 12 when it plays a doubleheader against Mars Hill at Newman Park.
The first game is at 2:30 p.m.
Players from as far as back as the 1940s are expected to be on hand.
* Catawbaís scheduled game at St. Andrews already has been postponed until April 14.
* Catawba is ranked 26th in D-II in the latest national poll and third in the South Region media poll. Catawba is ranked behind Tampa and Lynn in the media poll.
* Wilkes baseball
Wilkes Community Collegeís Jason Brown (A.L. Brown) homered in a recent 11-3 victory over Arundel (Md.) Community College.
Brown also had a double, his team-leading sixth stolen base and three RBIs.
Walker Snow (Carson) and Tanner Brown (North Rowan) have pitched regularly for Wilkes. Snow has 32 strikeouts in 382/3 innings, while Brown has fanned 24 in 27 frames. Justin Kidd (West) has pitched and is batting .333 with two homers. Brett Mulkey (North) has knocked in 12 runs. Matt Smith (Carson) has a homer.
* Cyclones win again
The 10-under NC State Cyclones baseball team won its second tournament in a row and fourth in five tries.
The Cyclones won an 11-team, rain-shortened tournament in Lexington with a 3-0 record and allowed only six runs. The Cyclones were notified they were being moved up from AA to AAA by the USSSA state director.
* Kannapolis Legion
The Kannapolis American Legion program will hold a meeting for the parents of prospective players from A.L. Brown and Northwest Cabarrus on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m.
The meeting will be at the VFW at 2500 N. Cannon Boulevard.
* Pfeiffer: Grier gets 51
Former Pfeiffer basketball standout DeMario Grier scored 51 points in a game for his Wolfenbuettel team in Germany over the weekend. Grier shot 14-for-24 on field goals, including 8-for-15 on 3-pointers and 15-for-16 on free throws.
* Pfeifferís baseball team lost two of three games to Barton over the weekend.
* Pfeifferís menís lacrosse team (5-4) beat Barton 10-5 on Saturday.
* College golf
Virginiaís Will Collins (Salisbury) shot 75-75-71 ó 221 and led the Cavaliers at the recent Tucson Invitational. Collins was 34th overall.
Collinsí best round of the year was a 68, and heís finished as high as fifth.
* Prep golf
Ledford won a CCC golf match played in the rain at Colonial Country Club on Monday.
Ledford shot 145 to top Central Davidson (174), West Davidson (178), East Davidson (187), Salisbury (189), North Rowan (213) and Lexington (231).
Wade Butnerís 46 led the Hornets. Roy Dixon and Randy Almeida shot 47s. Zack Kirchin shot 49.
Jon Robertsonís 50 paced North Rowan. Miller Sokolowski and Dillon Mason shot 52s, while Billy Fordyce and Kyle Collins shot 59s.
* Ace in GARS event
Willie Beaver made a hole-in-one on the 120-yard No. 8 hole at Crescent during Mondayís rainy GARS event.
* Atlanta Braves on TV
Atlanta-Pittsburgh baseball games are scheduled to air on FSN at 7:10 on Wednesday and on SportSouth at 7:10 on Thursday.
