Out of the ashes
Observing the ground-zero devastation at the Salisbury Millwork site, it seems all but impossible that the company could rise again from the charred rubble of last week’s fire.
But company President Norde Wilson vows that the operation will do just that, in some form. In the interim, he says that the 35 employees will continue to be paid, and some are already working to complete prior orders, thanks to the generosity of other businesses willing to lend their space and tools.
Let’s hope his confidence is borne out in the months ahead. The loss of material structures and jobs pales in comparison to the loss of two firefighters. Yet for the millwork’s employees and the families they support, life eventually must go on. They need these jobs, and the local economy needs thriving businesses.
