There will be a party for Ivy on Feb. 2 at Milford Hills United Methodist Church which will include a power point program of her life.
The Salisbury Post carried several articles about Ivy in the 1930s and ’40s, during her nursing and navy career.
After receiving her nurse’s training in Salisbury, her appointments included the Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, N.Y. and the Red Cross Nursing Corps.
In the Aug. 31, 1942 edition of Salisbury Evening Post, a photograph of Ensign Ivy Weant shows her in dress uniform, the first North Carolinian to enlist in the U.S. Navy’s nurse’s corps and the first to apply for foreign service.
