Building permit numbers are up to a level not seen since the quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2005.
The economic indicators compiled by the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce show 525 building permits with a value of $68.5 million were issued for the most recent quarter tabulated, which ended Sept. 30, 2007.
That value also looks like the highest figure, at least since the Chamber of Commerce started compiling the quarterly figures.
Permit numbers were up to 578 at the end of 2005, but the value wasn’t nearly as high then at $53.8 million. Some quarters have seen higher permit numbers, such as the 749 notched in the quarter ended June 3, 2001, but the total value then was far lower than the current dollar figure.
The economic indicators list is sponsored by F&M Bank, which will back the compilation for 2008.
