Olivia Rankin was crowned the 2007 Miss Cinderella Ball Queen on June 23 in Livingstone College’s Varick Auditorium.
Rankin is the daughter of Christopher and Stephanie McNeil and Tyrone Rankin. She is a member of Rowan Christian Assembly and an eighth grader at Knox Middle School. Rankin won first place in the pageant talent competition and tied for second in the scrapbook contest.
Her escort was Darien Rankin, son of KentGillespie and Bianca Rankin.Other participants were:
Jamira Miller, daughter of Jerry and Joy Miller. She is a sixth-grade student at Knox Middle School and attends Gray’s Chapel Holiness Church. Her escort was Andre Archie, son of Andre and Arnisa Archie.
Keonna Artis, daughter of Charles and Kerry Artis. She attends Cornerstone Church and is a seventh-grade student at Kannapolis Middle School. She won first place in the scrapbook contest. Her escort was Jordan Linebarger,the son of Melissa Smith.
Alexa Allison, daughter of Michael and Linda Allison. She is a seventh-grade student at China Grove Middle School and was escorted by La Von Hill, the son of Tracy and TaQuita Parker. Allison was selected Miss Congeniality and tied for second place in the scrapbook contest.
Amber Carter, daughter of Crystal Carter and the late Roger Carter. She attends Southern City AME Zion Church and is a sixth-grader at North Rowan Middle School. Her escort was Darrius Ellis, son of Geraldine Ellis.
Keaira Davis, daughter of Tonya Holmes Russell and Richard Davis. She attended the sixth grade at North Rowan Middle School. She was escorted by Jamone Kelly, the son of James and Cynthia Kelly.
Daneea Gladden, the daughter of Melvin and Jessica Gladden. She attends Files Chapel Church and is a sixth-grader at North Rowan Middle School. She was escorted by Nijee Herndon, the son of Jimmy Phillips and Tamika Herndon.
ZaCola Hamilton, daughter of Pakita Hamilton. She attends New Zion Baptist Church. She is a sixth-grade student at North Rowan Middle School. She was escorted by DavonteHorne, the son of TamaraRhodes and James Horne.
Jadaea Mills, daughter of Clara Gaston and Jamie Mills. She attends Shady Grove Baptist Church and is a sixth-grade student at North Rowan Middle School. Her escort was Michael Fox, son of Cindy Timmons.The pageant is an annual fund-raiser for the Delta Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The local chapter serves youth by promoting education through numerous activities, including tutoring, mentoring, providing grants and leadership development.
Annual scholarships are given to high school seniors in the Rowan and Davie County areas.
Lovetta Ealy Moore is the chapter president and Cassondra Heilig was program chairperson.
Farmer’s Day winners
The winners of this year’s Farmer’s Day pageant, held July 21 in China Grove, were: infant-2 years, girls: Grace Randall Holshouser of Mooresville, daughter of Todd and Alicia Holshouser; infant-2 years, boys: Denver Mark Smith of Salisbury, son of Mark and Brandy Smith; 3-5 years, girls: Sydney Leigh Hardin of Kannapolis, daughter of Anthony and Michelle Hardin.
There were no entries for the category of boys ages 3-5.
Miss Teen pageant
Lauren Ann Teodorovici, daughter of Gheorghe and Kathy Teodorovici of Salisbury is among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of North Carolina at the 2007 State Pageant being held July 27-29 at Greensboro College.
The finals take place at 3:30 p.m. today in Huggins Auditorium. The winner of the pageant receives a $1,000 scholarship and a $1,000 savings bond. In addition, her high school receives $250 from the Miss Teen America Scholarship and Recognition Program.
Teodorovici is a rising junior at North Rowan High School.
Each state candidate will be scored in six judging categories: scholastic record, achievement and service, talents and skills, general awareness written test, formal wear, and interview. The state titleholder will be eligible to compete for the national title of Miss Teen of America.
Teodorovici is sponsored in the pageant by Dr. KevinShowfety, Friday’s, Bill and Jane Weatherford, Simon and Karen Teodorovici and BethAmy Center.
