Ona Henderson
CONCORD ó Ona Whitley Henderson, 1919-I Pine Bough Lane, died at her home June 6, 2007.
Born Sept. 29, 1911, in Huntersville, Mrs. Henderson was a daughter of the late James Davidson and Laura Anna Alexander Whitley.
Her husband of 60 years, James O. Henderson, and a grandson preceded her in death.
A resident of Kannapolis for 70 years, she and her husband were cottage counselors at Stonewall Jackson Training School until they retired in 1974. She became “Mom” to many struggling boys who stayed at the school.
Survivors include daughter the Rev. Jimmie H. Melton, Concord; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
A service was held Friday (June 8, 2007) at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Roland Jones, retired Methodist minister, and Mrs. Henderson’s daughter, the Rev. Jimmie H. Melton, pastor, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
