The Cabarrus County Senior Center is offering something for everyone in June. A caregiver camp will provide resources and relaxation to those caring for older relatives or for older adults caring for children. Arthritis sufferers can join an exercise class tailored to their physical needs and abilities. For those just looking to have fun, a hula luau is planned for the end of the month.
Caregiver Camp
Everyone needs a break from daily stresses and a time to rejuvenate and recharge. That’s the purpose of the Caregiver Camp, sponsored by the Cabarrus County Senior Center. This free, three-day day camp for caregivers is designed for individuals who are caring for loved ones 60 years or older, or those 60 or older who are caring for children 18 years or younger.
The Caregiver Camp will focus on caregiver wellness and self-care and will include training, activities and entertainment. The Caregiver Camp will be held June 19-21 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily at the Cabarrus County Senior Center, 331 Corban Ave., Concord. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Participants must register in advance by calling 704-920-3484 or by dropping by the Senior Center for a camp itinerary. The final registration deadline is June 15.
Arthritis exercise
Some individuals suffering with arthritis are reluctant to exercise. However, research shows that exercise is beneficial and can even ease joint pain.
The Cabarrus County Senior Center is offering a 12-week exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis. The PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) program, developed by the Arthritis Foundation, engages participants in gentle body movements to help increase joint flexibility, range of motion and muscle strength, coordination and endurance.
The exercise class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. from June 26 through Aug. 16. The cost is $24. To register, drop by the Cabarrus County Senior Center at 331 Corban Ave. in Concord. For more information, call 704-920-3484.
Luau dinner-dance
Older adults are invited to enjoy a dinner buffet, dancing and Hawaiian entertainment at the Cabarrus County Senior Center’s Hula Luau Dinner Dance from 6 until 11 p.m. June 29. The Delmonicos will provide music. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased by 5 p.m. June 22. For more information, call 704-920-3484.
