On June 23, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., visit Latta Plantation and learn about Charlotte’s gold mining history. Try panning for gold at the newly constructed Miner’s Cabin on site. To get to Latta Plantation from Kannapolis, take Hwy. 73 to I-77 S. and get off at exit 23. Turn right off the exit to Gilead Road and then take the third left, McCoy Road. At the stop sign, turn right on Beatties Ford Road. Turn left onto Sample Road. Stay on Sample Road until you reach the back of Latta Plantation Park. The plantation house itself is on your right.
