RALEIGH ó The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced the winners of the eighth annual Litter Prevention Award Competition.
The city of Concord won second place for a government agency.
The competition challenges community organizations to promote behavior that stops roadside littering. The office of the governor, Department of Transportation, N.C. Keep America Beautiful and the N.C. Beverage Association sponsor the competition.Each year, winners in three categories ó government agencies, nonprofit organizations, school/youth groups ó receive $1,000 for first place and $500 for second place. The prize money is donated by the N.C. Beverage Association.
This year’s winners include:
– Government agency ófirst, Keep Onslow Beautiful of Jacksonville; second, city of Concord.
– Nonprofit organization ó first, Keep McDowell Beautiful Inc. of Marion; second, Greater Whiteville Chamber of Commerce.
