Thumbs up to Ed Rankin, advisor to governors and friend of the textile industry, who died at the age of 87 last week in Winston-Salem. Rankin is best remembered here for his 13 years with Cannon Mills as vice president for relations and for the book he wrote about Cannon, “A Century in the Making.” He also joined with Hugh Morton on “Making a Difference in North Carolina.” That is what they both did.
Thumbs up to CT Communications for once again being the largest contributor to the United Way in Cabarrus County, with pledges of $95,300.
Thumbs up to the Kannapolis traditions that continue. They start with the Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. next Tuesday and continue Dec. 2 with the Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:30 p.m. in Veteran’s Park on Main Street. Events like these help define our community.
