The Cannon Memorial YMCA will host the Strong Kids Family 500 Go-cart racing event at the NASCAR SpeedPark in Concord on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.
Area businesses and local NASCAR celebrities have sponsored go-carts for this fun family event. The afternoon will start with a meet and greet with refreshments upstairs. There will be various baskets and many NASCAR items for auction.
At 5 p.m., the fun moves to the Family 500 track where business owners and local sponsors will race for the chance to win the Strong Kids Family 500. Winners of the four race heats will be competing against some of NASCAR’s local favorites in the final race for the Family 500 Race Cup and a Richard Petty Driving Experience. Proceeds go to the Strong Kids Scholarship Campaign, an assistance program for youth and their families.
Ann and Kenny Schrader will be on hand for the event and attendees will hear from a couple families who have benefited from the money raised through this campaign.
The race will be started by H.H. “Humpy” Wheeler.
A few of the go-cart sponsors include Tony Stewart, Joe Gibbs Racing, the Independent Tribune, Colin Branch of the Carolina Panthers, Chick-fil-A, Cici’s Pizza, Tom Johnson Camping Center, the Levine Children’s Center and more.
