A season-high four errors led to the Kannapolis Intimidators blowing a six-run lead and losing 8-7 to Hickory on Wednesday.
The Intimidators (23-23) also had a season-high four home runs, three in the first three innings. Stefan Gartrell hit a three-run home run in the top of the first, while Archie Gilbert and Francisco Hernandez hit solo shots in the second and third, respectively. Kannapolis led 6-0 after three innings.
That lead didnt hold up because the Intimidators gave up five unearned runs. Kannapolis still led 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh Mike Grace had a solo home run for the Is in the sixth but the Crawdads (17-26) took the lead in the eighth.
n South Junior Legion
South Rowans Junior Legion team opens its season at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, at home against Mooresville.
Veterans will be honored for Memorial Day weekend. Post 146 will furnish a color guard, and there will be patriotic music throughout the game.
The first 100 fans will receive a hand-held flag. Fans are invited to purchase a rib plate for $8.
n Athletic physicals
West Rowan Middle physicals for athletic participation during the 2007-08 school year will be offered for grades 6-8 from 4-7 p.m. on May 30 at West Middle.
A parent or guardian should be present. The cost is $15, cash only, due at the time of the physical.
n Carson athletic physicals will be offered June 6 beginning at 6 p.m. The physicals will take place in the gym area of Carson High and will be administered first-come, first-serve. There is no cost to Carson athletes.
Physical forms are available in the main office or coachs office in the gym. Fill out the form before arriving for the physical. Every athlete must have a physical every 365 days to participate in school sports.
n Basketball camp
The second session of the Hoops Unlimited Basketball Camp at North Hills Christian School from July 17-20 is closed. Applications are still being accepted for the other three sessions, which are for rising sixth through ninth grade boys and girls.
n North Hills golf
The North Hills Christian School middle school golf team completed an undefeated season by winning the PAC 8 conference tournament with a team score of 161, defeating second place Woodlawn by 19 strokes.
Leading the Eagles was co-medalist Andrew Parks with a 37. Other scorers were Chad Blankenbeker (39), Cameron Beck (42) and James DeCoster (43). All PAC 8 conference selections were Parks, Blankenbeker and DeCoster.
n Mooresville postponed
Mooresvilles scheduled Legion opener against Cherryville has been pushed back to Monday.
