The Livingstone men’s basketball team lost to visiting St. Paul’s 95-80.

Michael Duncan led the Blue Bears (5-12, 3-9 CIAA) with 23 points. Christopher Worley had 18 points, and Stephen Butler scored 10.

Antonio Hargrave led St. Paul’s with 21 points. Marcus Mitchell (West Rowan) and Tristan Rankin (North Rowan) scored six points apiece. Mitchell is the son of Livingstone women’s basketball coach Andrew Mitchell.

n Livingstone’s women beat St. Paul’s 70-66. Chelsea Johnson’s free throw with 18 seconds left broke a 64-all tie.

Clintoria Bryant had 16 points, including four free throws in the final 14 seconds. Kim Westray had 14 points and 11 boards. Lina Brown and Lamika Davis scored 11 points each. Turquoise Lane hit a free throw with one second left.

n Middle school tourney

The top-seeded and undefeated Knox boys will meet No. 2 West Rowan at 6 p.m. today in the championship game of the Rowan County Middle School Conference’s eighth-grade basketball tournament at Corriher-Lipe.

Knox (14-0) advanced to the finals with a 67-54 victory over No. 5 China Grove on Monday. The Trojans were led by Darrien Rankin’s 25 points. Alex Weant scored 21, and Romar Morris added 13.

China Grove (6-8) was led by Nick Houston (16 points), Zack Gragg (14) and Joseph Basinger (10).

West Rowan (14-2) took a 47-26 win over No. 3 Corriher-Lipe on Tuesday. B.J. Sherrill led the Bulldogs with 14 points and six rebounds. John Knox scored 10.

n The top-seeded Southeast girls, led by twins Ashia and Ayanna Holmes, will take on No. 2 Knox at 4:30 p.m. today in the other final.

Southeast (12-1) downed No. 5 West Rowan 41-30 in Monday’s semifinals.

Knox (12-2), which handed Southeast its only loss in overtime, rolled past No. 3 Erwin 46-26 on Tuesday. Ayanna Hicks led Knox with 16 points.

Erwin (10-6) was led by Taylor Honeycutt’s eight points and Mallory Drew’s six rebounds and five steals.

n Davie splits with Demons

Davie County’s boys basketball team lost to R.J. Reynolds 67-48 in a CPC game on Tuesday night.

Davie (6-15, 0-9) trailed by eight points at halftime, and the Demons pulled away in the third quarter.

Drew Absher scored 16 points for the War Eagles, and Darius Hall had 12. Mark Stevenson had 21 points for RJR.

n Davie’s girls beat Reynolds 64-31. Meisha Fowler had 16 points to help Davie (9-12, 5-4) move into a third-place tie with East Rowan.

n Sacred Heart wins

James Kyger hit three 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead Sacred Heart’s boys basketball team to a 77-29 victory over High Point Wesleyan.

Sacred Heart (23-5) got 17 points from Roy Dixon. Phil Tonseth had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Colin Sullivan and Jack Young had 10 points each.

Brian Bauk had eight points, six steals and five assists. Kevin Robinson had 10 rebounds.

n East Little League

East Rowan Little League will hold sign-ups on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Erwin. ERLL offers girls softball divisions as well as baseball divisions for ages 7 to 14. Birth cerificate and proof of residency are required.
