Son charged with attempted murder in stabbing of parents; no bond for Kannapolis man
A Kannapolis man has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder in the stabbing of his parents.
Audi Thomas Harrington, 39, 1510 Buffalo St., is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond.
Rowan Sheriff George Wilhelm said Saturday night the incident occurred at the Buffalo Street home where the son apparently lived with his parents. The area is off West C Street, near the Cabarrus-Rowan line.
Linda Wilkenson Harrington apparently woke up just before 2 a.m. Saturday to see her son stabbing her husband.
Wilhelm said she tried to stop her son, but he turned on her and stabbed her.
He fled the scene, and Linda Harrington sought help from a neighbor.
The parents were taken to NorthEast Medical Center, where a hospital spokesman said Saturday night that both remain in fair condition.
Both were stabbed multiple times with the father’s injuries appearing to be more serious.
The son returned to the home later Saturday morning while deputies were still on the scene and was arrested.
Wilhelm said the stabbing apparently resulted from some type of domestic dispute.
Deputies G.S. Henline, Chad Moose and Billy Basinger are working the case.
Magistrate Wendy Jarret Ruth set Harrington’s first appearance hearing in Rowan County District Court on Tuesday.
