BOSTON — The ball swished through the net, the buzzer sounded, and Sean Marshall could forget about the missed free throw that could have iced the game.

The BC senior hit the game-winning, game-ending 3-pointer on Tuesday night, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles to an 85-82 victory over Florida State (14-6, 2-4, ACC) and spark a raucous celebration with his depleted team.

“I got down on myself,” said Marshall, who missed the first of two free throws with a chance to give the Eagles a three-point lead with 17.1 seconds left. “When I got the ball, I had it in my head to shoot it. I was trying to make up for the free throw I missed. Hopefully I did that.”

Tyrese Rice had 26 points, scoring 16 in the final 14 minutes for BC (14-5, 6-1), including a double-pump jump shot from the lane that rolled in off the rim to give BC the lead with 31.4 seconds left.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Zabian Dowdell scored a career high 30 points to help No. 24 Virginia Tech beat Miami 92-85.

Deron Washington added 23 points and scored on two separate three-point plays in the final 1:16 to secure the victory for the Hokies (15-5, 5-1 ACC), who have won six of their last seven.

NEW YORK (AP) — Larry Wright hit a 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds to play to give St. John’s a 71-68 win over No. 22 Notre Dame, the Red Storm’s second straight last-minute win.

STATESBORO, Ga. — Jason Richards scored a career-high 32 points as Davidson rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit and pulled away to defeat Georgia Southern 101-92.

It was the 13th win in the last 14 games for the Wildcats, who improved to 17-4 overall and 8-1 in the Southern Conference.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — With his Syracuse release in hand, Mike Jones became the latest highly regarded player from South Carolina to start his career elsewhere and then return home to its state university.

The 6-foot-8 Jones attended classes Tuesday, officially joining former Cincinnati standout Devan Downey from Chester and Zam “Buck” Fredrick of Calhoun County on the Gamecocks’ talented waiting list.
