BOONE — D.J. Thompson scored 25 points to lead all scorers as Appalachian State defeated Furman 77-63 on Wednesday.

Thompson went 6-of-11 from the field, including three 3-pointers. Donte Minter added 14 points and Kellen Brand had 13 for the Mountaineers (15-5, 7-2 Southern Conference).

The Mountaineers were up 42-26 at the half, but fell behind by as many as seven points after the break.

Appalachian State then went on an 18-0 run, holding the Paladins (10-10, 4-5) without a field goal for 10 minutes to lead 70-57. The Mountaineers held on for the win.

Drexel 66, UNC-W 50

WILMINGTON — Frank Elegar scored 17 points and Scott Rodgers had 15 in Drexel’s 66-50 victory over UNC Wilmington.

Dejan Grkovic scored 13 points and Todd Hendley added 10 before fouling out for UNC Wilmington.

Southern Miss 83, ECU 72

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Craig Craft and Sai’Quon Stone scored 19 points apiece as Southern Mississippi beat visiting East Carolina 83-72.

Darrell Jenkins scored a game high 25 points for East Carolina (5-13, 0-5), and Courtney Captain added 20 for the Pirates.

five-game losing streak with a 66-60 win over Arkansas.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia University coach Herb Magee tied the record for Division II coaching wins Wednesday night with a 63-56 victory over Holy Family.

Magee, who has been coaching for 40 years, has 828 career victories. He is tied with Winston-Salem State coach Clarence “Big House” Gaines. He can break the mark on Saturday.
