Area briefs: Pfeiffer splits with Anderson

Pfeiffer’s men’s basketball team outscored Anderson 87-80 for a CVAC road victory.

Tavares Cooper led 18th-ranked Pfeiffer with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Logan Call (15 points), Thomas Carr (12), Robert McGriff (10) and DeMario Grier (10) also scored in double figures for the Falcons.

Pfeiffer (13-2, 7-1) led 43-36 at halftime and was ahead by 17 points with five minutes left when Anderson made a late run.

Pfeiffer plays host to St. Andrews on Saturday.

* Anderson beat Pfeiffer’s women 87-82 in overtime in a matchup of two of the CVAC’s top teams.

Lauren Brittingham scored 27 points to lead the Falcons (11-4, 6-2). Raven Truslow (16 points), Tamara Clay (12) and Kalee Smith (10) also scored in double figures.

Deidra Langston scored 28 points for Anderson.

* Morris gets ace

Larry Morris had a hole-in-one on Monday on the No. 3 hole at McCanless Golf Club.

Morris used a 7-iron on the 145-yard hole. The shot was witnessed by Jim Fero, Gilbert Sprinkle and Mike Gilb.

* Crisco records ace

Max Crisco made a hole-in-one on No. 10 at McCanless Golf Club on Tuesday. Crisco used an 8-iron on the 125-yard hole to get the first ace of his career. John Williams witnessed the feat.

* College update

Brittany Roberson (West Rowan) scored six points as Lees-McRae beat Queens 84-79 in a CVAC game on Thursday.

Ashley Watkins (Salisbury) scored eight points and had five rebounds for Queens.

* Maggie Rich (East Rowan) scored four points for Campbell in a 67-60 loss to Stetson on Monday.

* Bombard leads Knights

Marc Bombard will manage the Charlotte Knights baseball team this season. Bombard will be entering his 23rd season as a minor-league manager and has 1,556 wins.
