Rowan Express East service to end

Rowan Express East will discontinue service on Sept. 15.
Due to the 2010 Census, the entire Rowan Express East Route that runs through Granite Quarry, Rockwell and Faith is considered inside an urban area. The grant funding that has paid for the Rowan Express East Route is designated for rural areas. Because this route is inside an urban area, the funding can no longer be used.
Coverage to this area will now be provided by the RITA service. The RITA service, or Share-a-Ride service, is the same service that is offered to all other Rowan County residents.
Residents can call 704-216-8888 for program information. Residents must meet eligibility requirements of the specific grant program that will pay for their trips before being signed up for service.
