Pethel crowned Miss Rowan County Veteran

FAITH — Drew Adams Pethel was crowned Miss Rowan County Veteran 2014 on Friday at the Faith Fourth of July festival.
Pethel, a 2014 graduate of East Rowan High School, was chosen from a field of 12 contestants as winner of the annual pageant.
The daughter of Branson and Carmen Pethel of Salisbury, she represented ­Livengood­-Peeler-Wood American Legion Post 448.
Among her other accomplishments, Pethel was active in Future Business Leaders of America, the East Rowan Student Council, the National Honor Society, Sigma Phi Gamma and other organizations.
Pethel also attended Tar Heel Girls State and the Broyhill Leadership Conference.
In athletics, Pethel lettered in tennis in all four years and won several championships.
Outside of school, Pethel is active in the Christiana Lutheran Church youth group and Altar Guild.
She has also been involved with outreach via Rowan Helping Ministries, Crisis Assistance and other community programs.
Pethel plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she intends to major in accounting.
Runner-up was Aunika Sky Allen, representing the Gen. Alan Hal Turnage Detachment No. 1096, Marine Corps League.
The daughter of Brandy Allen, she is a sophomore at Rowan County Early College High School.
