Never made to wait at VA hospital
I have been going to the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Facility in Salisbury for 12 to 15 years and I am proud to say that they have been more than responsive to my every need.
I have never been refused treatment or been made to wait for any extended period of time for any service or treatment that I have sought. I think doctors are well qualified and the nursing and administrative staff are above reproach.
I thank them for being there when I needed them and I certainly don’t think any of them are in any way involved in the current scandal.
I tip my hat (Army, that is) to Ms. Elaine Howle for unwavering, unheralded tireless work to serve the men and women in Rowan County. I think the decision to cut her hours as a county veterans service officer was poorly thought out and she does not get the credit or the applause she so rightfully deserves.

Obama no Hitler
The writer is referring to letters in Monday’s Post: “Obama and Hitler” from Delmar McDaniel and “Obama’s misconduct” from W.F. Owens.
As usual with the Obama haters, Mr. McDaniel should get his facts straight. The Lifeline benefit program was originally enacted by Ronald Reagan in 1984, expanded in 1996 by Clinton, and Safelink Wireless was launched by Tracphone in 2008 during George Bush’s administration.
And to Mr. Owen, the VA “scandals” did not originate with Obama. In 2005, a list of 19 facilities that were failing their responsibilities to veterans was given to the Bush administration. What was done at that time?
When you cannot get your facts straight, you lose all credibility.
I have my differences with Mr. Obama’s policies from time to time, but when I do, they are based on facts. If you folks could find another news source other than Fox News, or read something other than the ultra right wing blogs that seem to be the “news” sources for so many of the Post letter writers, maybe they could find time to do more than just hate.

Slow letters day?
On Mr Delmar McDaniel’s piece, I noticed he said he watched a four-hour piece on Hitler. Did you really watch it, Mr. McDaniel? Did you? Because if you did, this silly little note you wrote to the Post would never have popped into your head. But it takes all kinds to make the world go around. It must have been a slow day for the Post to have printed this one.
