A Rowan County site is among those being pitched to a California beer maker for its eastern U.S. operations.
Stone Brewing Co., the 10th-largest craft brewery in the nation, is looking to buy or build a 130,000-square-foot facility for brewing, packaging and distribution operations with room to expand to 220,000 square feet.
The company also plans a hospitality facility with indoor and outdoor dining and event space and a retail store.
The Charlotte Regional Partnership has offered a number of possible sites in the region, including one in Rowan — the 425-acre platinum site off Interstate 85 between Peeler and Webb roads. Other sites offered include locations in Iredell, Cabarrus, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties.
They face a lot of competition. More than 100 communities east of the Mississippi River have submitted proposals to Stone Brewery, includuing Asheville, Greensboro and Wilmington in North Carolina.
