Rowan weather: Severe thunderstorm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Rowan County until 10:30 a.m. today.

The Weather Service says a cold front will move into the area this morning, bringing a band of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Strong winds aloft may bring strong gusts with the rain. Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning can be expected with any of these thunderstorms. A few storms could produce localized damaging winds around 60 mph.

The possibility of severe thunderstorms may prompt watches or warnings.

Once the line passes, it looks like we’re in for several days of sunshine and cool temperatures.

The storms should move through by this afternoon. bringing clearing skies and a low tonight around 34.

We climb to 64 on Saturday with calming winds. Saturday night’s low should be around 36, with Sunday another calm, warm day, high around 66.

Monday should be sunny with a high near 56.
