  • Posted: Monday, December 23, 2013 6:46 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch to include Rowan County until noon today.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected this morning. This will result in storm total amounts of 2 to 4 inches across the watch area.

The long duration of the heavy rainfall will result in rising stream levels, primarily on larger streams, including main stem rivers. This man result in additional localized flooding this morning. In addition, some urban area will also experience stream and poor drainage flooding this morning.

Precautionary and preparedness actions:

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

People should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
