MOUNT ULLA — This year, Patterson Farm is participating in the fight against bullying by introducing a new anti-bullying message associated with their corn maze attraction, The Maize at Patterson Farm. They are doing so with the help of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, named the “spokes-pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month.
This year’s maze design incorporates Spookley, the cartoon pumpkin who has a unique square shape, the “bullying” spelled out in the maze with a circle around it and a line crossing through it, displaying the “No Bullying” message.
On Saturday, families gathered at Patterson Farm to watch “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin,” a cartoon movie about Spookley, and hear his message of tolerance and kindness to kick off National Bullying Prevention Month. And throughout Patterson Farm’s entire fall season, which runs through Nov. 9, the message will resound.
“At Patterson Farm Market and Tours, we have always placed an importance on education and reinforcing positive messages for the next generation,” said Michelle Patterson, Patterson Farm Market and Tours director of fun. “The message of tolerance is an important one for our children, not only during National Bullying Prevention Month, but always. We’re glad we can help spread that message and let kids of all ages have fun here on the farm.”
Patterson Farm offers a chance for visitors to navigate through The Maize while following along with Spookley’s storyboards that provide the important anti-bullying message. Spookley’s message is designed to be easily grasped by younger children, aiming to stop bullying before it starts.
Kids of all ages and adults alike are invited to get lost in the corn maze. Patterson Farm offers passports to help visitors find their way through The Maize. There are 13 different passport topics that will appeal to a variety of ages, and on Saturdays during the month of October, people can visit the farm after dark and navigate through The Maize backwards using flashlights to find their way.
