FAITH — Dr. Matt Lyerly says he is running for Faith alderman to help local businesses and give back to the community.

Lyerly, 41, who has never held elected office before, filed for the Faith Town Board of Aldermen on July 23. He lives on Ridgeline Drive and is self-employed as a dentist.

“Being a small-business owner, I would like to be an advocate for local businesses,” Lyerly wrote to the Salisbury Post. He said he also hopes to “help with the town budget, which is always a concern with municipalities cutting back.”

Lyerly graduated from East Rowan High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended the Medical College of Virginia and performed his residency in anesthesia at Loma Linda Health Center.

He is a member of Daysprint Community Church and a volunteer with the Faith Fourth of July.

“I grew up here. I live here,” Lyerly wrote. “To me, it is a great way to give to my community.”

Lyerly and his wife, Gena, have two children.

He is running in the Nov. 5 election against three incumbents and four other challengers for one of five open seats on the Faith Town Board of Aldermen.
