Authorities say a Salisbury man took metal items, including car parts, a refrigerator and ladders from a Mount Hope Church Road property and sold it to a salvage dealer.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Samuel Douglas Atwell, 22, of Buccaneer Circle, on Thursday with two counts felony larceny and one count felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

Warrants say Atwell took an engine from a Chrysler, two transmissions from vehicles, a chainsaw, miscellaneous scrap metal, go-kart parts, rims and two extension ladders. The items were sold to Foil Salvage on Wednesday, and Atwell was given $125 for some items and $140 for other items. The warrant said the material was valued at more than $2,000.

Atwell was convicted in July 2011 for a June 2010 larceny charge from Rowan County, the N.C. Department of Corrections said. Atwell received a $6,500 secured bond and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center.
