South Rowan FFA gets grant for second year
The South Rowan FFA chapter in China Grove has received $2,500 as part of the FFA: Food For All program. This is the second year that this grant has been awarded to South Rowan FFA. The nationwide program provides grant money to local FFA chapters to support year-long service-learning projects focused on developing and implementing sustainable hunger relief projects.
The South Rowan FFA plans to help fight hunger by raising chickens for egg production and growing various vegetables on the agriculture department’s land laboratory. These fresh eggs and vegetables will be donated to Main Street Mission in China Grove and to the Unity Mobile Meals program at Unity United Methodist Church. FFA members will care for chickens and collect their eggs, as well as plant, raise and harvest vegetables in an effort to provide fresh, healthy foods for local residents in need.
The FFA: Food For All grant program is administered by the National FFA Organization, with funding provided in part by Farmers Feeding the World and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. The program provided approximately $323,000 to FFA chapters in 42 states. More information about the program can be found at www.FFA.org/foodforall.
